In my work, I know I am failing a client, comrade, or organization if they feel like they need me to be okay. There is a very thin line between support and dependency—one that often emerges from unequal access to power and the unequal ways it is redistributed.
This line isn’t theoretical; it is felt in the body. Nowhere else. It is deeply personal, fluid, and shifts with circumstance.
My next workshop—We Can’t Be Abolitionist & Conflict Avoidant—isn’t just about facing conflict with our bosses, comrades, co-parents, or chosen family (though that is necessary!). It is about something even deeper: practicing what it means to live in our full agency.
We exist in systems of coercion that condition us to relinquish our sovereignty just to survive. The lab was, and remains, slavery. We are all forced to labor for the enrichment of a few. And while I’m one of those lucky (?!) people who love what they do—mostly because of y’all—it is never lost on me that I exist within the legacy of racial capitalism.
It is also never lost on me that the more we practice surrendering our agency, the more we become people who wait—for a leader, a lover, a friend, a practitioner—to save us from ourselves.
But swapping one savior for another, even a "better" one who understands collective liberation, is not freedom. It may be a soothing fantasy, but it is not liberation. Liberation is the slow, intentional practice of reclaiming our agency—of making choices from deep alignment rather than fear or scarcity.
I cannot say this enough: this requires practice. It requires practicing something so unfamiliar that, at first, it might feel wrong.
This workshop is about more than conflict. It is about stepping fully into our power, no longer waiting for permission to live the lives we deserve. We are not waiting to be worthy of it—we are co-creating it. We stop marginalizing ourselves, stop erasing ourselves from our own lives. We become the center.
We become undeniable—first to ourselves. So much so that any step away from our own desire, our own liberation, and the liberation of those around us, feels simply untenable.
